Climbing Routes

 Primary Education Climbing Routes

The Primary Climb Project will allow pupils simultaneous access a special school provision, alongside a mainstream primary placement. The Climb Project's ultimate goal is the supported integration of pupils with SEND into the mainstream primary classroom at some level, where they can engage with peer groups, make friendships and access a curriculum, which will prepare them for their next stage of education.

Initial Assessment

Pupils entering the project will initially be based in our induction classroom, where over a period of time they will undergo integration into the project. During this time, specialist staff members will conduct a variety of observations focusing on SEND needs, behaviour  support, academic needs and ensuring that the pupils feel safe, happy and included. Following this initial assessment period, children will then be place on one of four learning routes.

Route 2

A Transitional Route, where pupils access elements of the specialist support mechanisms outlined within Route 1 but also access carefully planned Quality First Teaching within the mainstream primary classroom. Whilst following this route, pupils will always have a transitional classroom workspace, where they can withdraw to if additional support is needed for social / emotional, SEND or academic needs.

Route 3

A Supported Integration Route, which will allow pupils to access the Quality First Teaching within the mainstream classroom. Underlying SEND support mechanisms (OT, S&L) will remain in place with reasonable adjustments made throughout the day to allow the pupil to be successful both socially, emotionally and academically. Pupils will also have access to a breakout provision for any unsettled or unstructured times or as a quiet place for lunches and breaks.
